Visit from the Lithuanian ambassador
The University hosted a visit from the Lithuanian
ambassador, who gave a guest lecture to students about European
issues.
Every year, the School of Humanities, Languages and Social
Sciences holds an event called the Jean Monnet Symposium as part of
a level 2 politics module, Europe United. Distinguished guest
speakers address students on European issues.
This year, as part of on-going co-operation between the
University and the Lithuanian Embassy, the Lithuanian ambassador to
the UK, His Excellency Mr Vygaudas Usackas, gave a lecture
entitled The Impact of EU membership on Lithuanian - Russian
Relations.
Professor Martin Dangerfield said: “Europe United is a Jean
Monnet Module which has received financial support from the
European Commission, which means that our EU studies modules
receive a valuable 'quality stamp' from Brussels.
“Previous speakers have included the Slovak Ambassador to
Ukraine, an official from the Icelandic Mission to Brussels and a
Croatian Vice-Minister for European Integration. “
More details about the Jean Monnet Symposium and the text of
the ambassador's speech are available from Professor Martin
Dangerfield in HLSS.
