The psychology of thinking.
Ken’s primary research interests lie in the psychology of thinking, reasoning and rationality. In particular, he is interested in the study of practical reasoning: the kind of thinking we engage in when trying to decide what to do. This is seen most clearly in the field of deontic reasoning, although there are also clear connections with the psychology of judgement and decision making.
Currently, Ken is focussing on how we decide which rules are good rules, and on how we think about dilemmas. He is also carrying out research on the applications of these aspects of thought in areas such as health and welfare. Ken also supervises a number of PhD students in these and other areas.
