French and Italian students have been experiencing
university life in Wolverhampton as part of two successful
partnership programmes.
More than 30 engineering students from Estia in Biarritz spent
a month attending lectures at the University of
Wolverhampton.
The 32
MSc Advanced
Technology Management students studied four engineering modules
with the University, but also visited places in the local area
including Ironbridge in Shropshire and Jaguar cars in Castle
Bromwich, Birmingham.
He said: “This MSc is highly valued in France and many
graduates have gained prestigious positions in engineering
including the aerospace and automotive industries. It has been a
fantastic partnership that seems set to develop into other areas
such as shared research and commercial opportunities.”
Meanwhile, 11 students from the Faculty of Political Science
at the University of Turin attended lectures, mixed with other
students and stayed with a local family in Wolverhampton.
The visit was part of a special programme agreed by the
University’s School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences
and the Italian university, which is now in its seventh year.
The students spent four weeks at the University. Mike
Townsend, Associate Dean External Relations and Development, set up
the programme with Professor Giuseppina Cortsese in Turin. This
year the visit was organised by the University of Wolverhampton’s
Eleanor Andrews.
Mike said: “Staying with a British family and the intensive
programme of classes added to the immersion feeling the students
had and helped improve their English considerably. The students
commented on how kind and helpful the families and University of
Wolverhampton staff had been.
“Several would like to return to Wolverhampton and do some
further study in areas such as Sociology and Media.”
